Greenbelt Authority (GBA) has terminated its shareholding contract with AUM Sugar and Allied Limited of India in Salima Sugar Company Limited due to breach of contract.

In a letter dated December 19 2023 signed by GBA chief executive officer, Eric Dudley Chidzungu, the agreement had been breached as revealed by results of a recent forensic audit.

“I would like to inform you that as per communication during the Extra Ordinary Shareholders meeting held on 6th December 2023 at Crossroads Hotel in Lilongwe, we have decided to terminate the
Shareholders Agreement between AUM Sugar and Allied Limited and GBI Holdings Limited dated 27th August 2015, in accordance with Section 12(3) of the Shareholders Agreement, ” he said.

In the letter , it is said that the aforementioned clause is to the effect that:
“The Agreement can be terminated at any time by either JV Partner for good cause, such as causes mentioned below
In particular, but without limitation, this Agreement may be terminated for good cause, which means and includes.

“By a JV Partner, if the other JV Partner does not pay any amount payable by it under or in connection with this
Agreement and such amount remains unpaid after the expiry of one hundred and eighty (180) days after such JVPartner in default received a notice by the Company or bythe other JV Partner requiring such payment to be made

A recent audit report at Salima Sugar indicated massive-scale abuses by the Democratic Progressive party top officials.

The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) reached a point where they believed they were unbeatable and therefore could do anything with calculated impunity.

To say that the DPP politicians ran the country as their farm estate could not even come close to the required clarity of the picture depicting how arrogant, irresponsible and careless their ego descended into, for even in running one’s farm estate, a measure of care and good calculation is put into regard to sustain it.

Numerous government parastatals were turned into DPP cash cows.
