By Kondanani Chilimunthaka Blantyre turned into red on Sunday 14 January, 2024, when the president Dr Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera was arriving in the city. President Lazarus Chakwera flew to Blantyre to appreciate himself challenges still facing citizens living in the Southern part of Malawi. Speaking in Chirimba township upon his entry in the Commercial city after landing at Chileka Airport, Chakwera encouraged Malawians not to be scared or discouraged when facing challenges, saying challenges must be taken as better steps to raise and pursue the vision. “I have been receiving reports and I am here to see for myself and appreciate them. But I would like to encourage you, that when we pass through challenges there is only one who never leaves us, that is God the creator, and he will help us this year that our hope should bear joyous fruits” Said President Chakwera. President Chakwera further urged Malawians to continue holding hands so that there is meaningful progress in socioeconomic endeavors he is championing in the country. Speaking earlier, Minister of Information, Moses Kunkuyu thanked President Chakwera for having addressed some challenges including fuel scarcity and electricity outages in the country, saying Malawians have their hope only in Chakwera’s leadership. On his part, Regional Chairman for South in MCP, Peter Simbi commended the government for maize stock that the region is receiving, but requested the government to dispatch more stock to the region and speed-up distribution so that no one dies of hunger at the time the region is experiencing looming hunger. While in the Southern region, President Chakwera is expected to lead Malawians in Commemorating Rev. John Chilembwe Day on 15th January 2024 in Chiradzulu District.
