By Hollice Mwitha Karonga Police have impounded 25 motorcycles during a traffic enforcement operation targeting riders and owners violating road traffic regulations in the district. The operation, conducted on August 14, 2026, was led by Karonga Police Traffic Branch Station Traffic Officer Superintendent Thom Kaunda and targeted motorcycles found contravening traffic regulations. Karonga Police Public Relations Officer Sub Inspector Rose Chipyola said the violations posed a risk to road safety and could contribute to road accidents. “We have indeed taken into custody 25 motorcycles during traffic enforcement operations for various offences,” said Chipyola. The violations included operating unregistered motorcycles, riding without valid certificates of insurance or permits and parking in undesignated areas. Chipyola said owners of the impounded motorcycles would pay fines depending on the offences committed. She urged motorcycle owners and operators to strictly observe traffic regulations and ensure that their motorcycles are roadworthy before using them on public roads. The impounded motorcycles will remain in police custody as the owners and riders face action in accordance with the offences committed.
