By Kondanani Chilimunthaka President Lazarus Chakwera is on Wednesday, 21st February 2024 returning to Parliament, almost two weeks after he was in the Chamber delivering the State Of Nation Address (SONA) in the opening of the 4th meeting in the 50th Budget Session of Parliament. Chakwera who on Friday 9th February 2024 had gone to Parliament to deliver the SONA as he opened the 50th Budget Session is this time going back, to answer questions from people of various constituencies through Members of Parliament on the SONA as required by Section 89(3) of the country’s constitution and Standing Order 70 (B) of the House. President Dr Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera Chakwera’s return to Parliament is expected to receive huge support drummed by Members of Parliament as characterized by the overwhelming praises heaped on him by lawmakers during the entire time of debating on the SONA from both Opposition and Government sides of the August House. President Chakwera has become the darling of Parliamentarians and constituents for among others raising the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) from K30 million to the current K100 million which has seen many constituencies being awarded various projects using the fund. He is also on song for fulfilling a promise to construct houses for security officers which DPP failed, initiating the rehabilitation of the M1 road, and the establishment of Mega Farms, increasing the package in the Social Cash Transfer program, and the recent promotion of teachers among many.
