Chizuma salutes Chakwera’s unwavering efforts in rooting out corruption

There is no one who can tell better the dynamics that have happened at the Anti-Corruption Bureau since its establishmen than its insiders; and the Director General, Martha Chizuma is better placed to tell them better.

Taking the podium on Thursday during the Bureau’s 25 years of operations at Bingu Convention Centre in Lilongwe Chizuma paid homage to President Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera for creating an enabling environment for the ACB’s operations.

Recounting from where the Bureau is coming from, Chizuma noted that the ACB has made a positive shift in the last three years under President Chakwera in as far as the fight against corruption is concerned.

She said: “We can say with some level of confidence that if as the country we can keep on the trajectory we have set for ourselves in as far as the anti-corruption efforts are concerned then we can actually make a substantive inroads into the Anti-Corruption problem and and achieve Malawi 2063 agenda.”

Chizuma said in the ACB’s existence, it is only under President Chakwera that Malawians have been accorded space to genuinely face and confront the ugliness of corruption in the country.

Admittedly, the ACB boss said at times President Chakwera had to make difficult decisions just to let the fight against corruption wins.

“It is your presidency that has had to make make uncomfortable decisions just so that we advance the Anti-Corruption fight,” said Chizuma.

ACB was established by the Act of Parliament 1995 to among other things investigate and prevent corruption and related vices but sarted its operations in February 1998.
