President Dr Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera Launching the medical facility Malawi leader Dr Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera on Tuesday launched civil service medical scheme at a function which took place at Capital City Lilongwe. The launch of the project is a great motivation to the civil servants. Speaking during the function, Chakwera said the groundbreaking Civil Servants’ Medical Scheme brings to fruition plan of remodeling the civil service through improved welfare so that it becomes a catalyst of efficient service delivery and socioeconomic growth. Chakwera said through this scheme, the country is assured that there is equity in access to quality healthcare in the public sector. “We deliberately designed this facility fully understanding that the civil service is the core implementing unit of government policies, programmes and projects. Therefore, successful implementation of our manifesto, the Malawi Vision 2063 and Sustainable Development Goals, largely rest on a productive civil service which must be well-taken care of,” he said. The president said if budget permitting, the scheme should extend to cover spouses and dependents of civil servants in the near future.
