Minister of Lands Deus Gumba has described handing over of security houses to Malawi Police as a clear testimony that President Dr Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera Government is delivering.

Gumba said this when he presided over the handing over of the security houses to Malawi Police at Ndirande Police Station.

“Ladies and Gentlemen, it is a clear testimony that the Government of Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera is here to deliver, by making sure that our men in uniform are accommodated in decent housing units,” he said.

Gumba said over the years, security institutions have been experiencing acute
shortage of staff houses.

“In view of this problem, it pleased His Excellency, the State President Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera on 15th of December 2020 to launch a Project for the construction of 10,000 (Ten Thousand)
houses for Security institutions across the country, at Karonga in order to ease accommodation challenges for security personnel,” said Gumba.

Minister of Homeland security Ken Zikhale Ng’oma who was also present at the function hinted that the construction of security houses in the country will enhance security.

Ng’oma said under the direction of President Dr Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera, Government will also endeavour to strengthen collaboration and cooperation with development partners for a concerted effort at addressing the accommodation challenge as it also explores effective alternative ways to improve the delivery of police services.

He said the Chakwera administration has since appealed to Police officers to take care of houses.

“Allow me at this point to make an appeal to Police Officers who will be allocated these houses to take good
care of the beautiful houses. Let US guard the houses from any form of vandalism and abuse,” he said.
