Minister of Finance Simplex Chithyola Banda on Monday organised a political rally at his constituency. During the rally Chithyola also celebrated his Birthday and Malawi Congress Party (MCP) Secretary General Eisenhower Mduwa Mkaka was the guest of Honour.

Speaking during the function, Mkaka urged people in the country to go and register so that they are able to vote in 2025.

Mkaka said only those who have registered will have the opportunity to vote.

Mkaka said: “An identification card will help you be identified as a Malawian so registration is not just about elections, because you see, for a person to be identified as a citizen of this country, they must have a national ID and this national ID serves many purposes, one of which is electrons,” he said.

He added: “So what we are saying is that people must go in their large numbers to register because they need this. If they want to go to the hospital, they will need an ID if they want to go to access AIP products , they will need ID if they want to register for elections they need it now particularly about the elections.”

Mkaka said if people want to vote they want to support the president, they must have the national ID.

“So yes, we are encouraging people to go and register. Let them go in their large number and have themselves registered,” he said.
