The Minister of Homeland Security Dr Kenneth Zikhale Ng’oma has pledged to improve security by enhancing the welfare of police officers in the country.

In 2023 the general public rated the homeland minister as one of the best performing in the Chakwera cabinet ministers.

Speaking today at the police headquarters in Lilongwe when receiving a donation of 12 motorcycles for police officers from the Chinese government, Ng’oma said that he is looking forward to devise other strategies to strengthen the country’s security in 2024.

Ng’oma added that motivation of police officers is key as far as security is concerned,hence the construction of good houses for police officers.

“We have managed to do well in 2023 and the public has rated us well,our performance indeed has been the best evidenced by the way we have handled some critical security cases,” Ng’oma said.

Meanwhile, the Chinese ambassador to Malawi Long Zhou has expressed satisfaction with the country’s security.

He has since applauded the country for being ready to sign a memorandum of understanding on global security that will enable combat cyber crime and Human trafficking among others.

The confirmation of Merlyn Yolamu as a first female Inspector General of police testifies the interest of the country’s leadership in uplifting the welfare of women police officers and the Malawi police service in general.
