Malawi Congress Party (MCP) Spokesperson in the central region, Abraham Liwonde has called upon the youth in the country to actively participate in tree planting and protection efforts to mitigate the effects of climate change.

Liwonde made this plea while addressing a tree planting initiative organized by the grouping known as Friends of Chakwera in the area of Senior Chief Chakhaza in Dowa district.

Speaking at the tree planting event, Abraham Liwonde emphasized the critical role that the youth play in promoting sustainable environmental practices and addressing the challenges posed by climate change.

He urged young people to take the lead in tree planting initiatives and emphasized the long-term benefits of preserving and expanding the country’s forest cover.

“By planting trees and protecting our forests, the youth can contribute significantly to mitigating the impact of climate change and safeguarding the environment for generations to come.” stated Liwonde.

Senior Chief Chakhaza, who was present at the tree planting event, commended the efforts of the Friends of Chakwera and emphasized the significance of tree planting in maintaining ecological balance and promoting biodiversity.

He encouraged community members to actively participate in tree planting activities and take ownership of environmental stewardship.

“The planting of trees is avital practice that benefits our environment and sustains our livelihoods and I commend the friends of Chakwera for their contribution to the environmental conservation and I urge all community members to join hands in preserving our natural heritage” remarked Senior Chief Chakhaza.

On his part Chairperson of friends of Chakwera, Alfred Mfitizalimba reiterated the grouping’s commitment to promote sustainable environmental practices and fostering a culture of environmental responsibility among the youth and community members.

“As friend of Chakwera we are dedicated to promoting environmental awareness and advocating for sustainable practices,” said Mfitizalimba.

He also said tree planting is atangible way for us to make positive impact on our environment and combat climate change in the country.
