By Kondanani Chilimunthaka President Lazarus Chakwera assured chiefs and the people of Mzimba district that his administration will continue to initiate developmental projects in the district while completing those which were started already so that people enjoy various services in all sectors including transport, education, and sports. Speaking to the crowd of that people that gathered at Edingeni Trading Center, Chakwera said one of the priority areas for development in the district is construction of roads, including the Edingeni road. The President who was on his way back from Edingeni Headquarters of the Royal Highness Inkosi Ya Makhosi M’mbelwa V, said Malawi is blessed with a lot of resources but some have failed to be fully utilized due to lack of better roads network across the country, Mzimba inclusive. Additionally, the President said Mzimba is among the districts in Malawi well known for agriculture, and that it can be producing maize three times a year if irrigation is intensified in the district. “The MP spoke of the food shortage. Mzimba is one of the agricultural districts and our plan is to cultivate three times a year, for this reason we will need a better road network. This is why with assistance from the American Government, some of the roads in this district will be constructed. All preparations were done already, and the project is starting soon” Said the President. Chakwera further said the construction of Inkosi M’mbelwa University is to ensure Mzimba district has a center of excellence for various skills in both crop and animal production so that Malawi can be exporting various products to other countries. He then said chiefs need to be respected, assuring chiefs of Mzimba that he has heard their concerns and advice, and that government will look into them. However, President Chakwera thanked Inkosi Ya Makhosi M’mbelwa V and his chiefs for warmly welcoming him and the First Lady during the visit. Speaking earlier on behalf of Inkosi Ya Makhosi M’mbelwa V, Senior Chief Mabulabo said Inkosi Ya Makhosi M’mbelwa V and the people of Edingeni are grateful for the President’s visit, adding that they will support the President in his endeavors. “This is what we call leadership. You have seen for yourself how these people love you, and we thank you for taking your time to pay us a visit as well as to speak to these people who have gathered here” Said Senior Chief Mabulabo. President Chakwera was in Mzimba to inspect the construction of M’mbelwa Stadium, M’mbelwa Council offices, and to pay homage to the Royal Highness, Inkosi Ya Makhosi M’mbelwa V.
