Chakwera launches Malawi School of Government By Kondanani Chilimunthaka President Lazarus Chakwera has officially launched the Malawi School of Government in the Capital Lilongwe on Wednesday 17th April 2024, aiming to train Civil Servants in the country to increase capacity and service delivery of the Civil Service. The school which integrates Malawi Institute of Management (MIM) and Mpemba Staff Development Institute, is one way of making sure that the Government addresses problems that cause civil servants to be less productive, or not committed to the service. Speaking during the launch of the school, President Chakwera said those who suffer or get affected by the vice are Malawians, adding that it is for the reason why his administration is establishing the Individual Performance Management System in collaboration with Chandler Institute of Governance to ensure there is coordinated operations among various departments in government. “Now that we are here after the long journey to establish this school, I direct that the Secretary to the President and Cabinet should work with all Principal Secretaries, Parastatal leaders, District Commissioners, and the Department of Human Resource and Department to identify all public servants for whom it should be mandatory to attend certain courses here. When we talk of public reform, the first to reform are the public servants themselves” Said President. Speaking earlier, Secretary to the President and Cabinet, Colleen Zamba commended President Chakwera for the initiative, saying it is of great importance to the Civil Service and the country at large. “Your Excellency, the importance of the school cannot be overemphasized, actually it is what I would tame the antidote to various poisons which had infiltrated the Public Service due to years of neglect. As your Excellency mentioned last year, Civil Service transformation is not an event, but rather a process, and establishment of the school is yet another significant milestone in that process” Zamba said.
