The Minister of Water and Sanitation, Abida Sidik Mia, on Wednesday commissioned the magnificent the Lilongwe Water Board Area 23 Service Center today. with a clarion call to people of area 23 and the surrounding area to take care of the board property.

Speaking during the function, Mia beamoned that the Board is losing alot of resources due to vandalism.

Abida Mia said was happy that people of Area 23 and the surrounding areas will have opportunity to access Lilongwe Water Board services.

The Chakwera Government secured financing from the World Bank/IDA for the implementation of the Lilongwe Water and Sanitation Project (LWSP) and as part of the project, LWB constructed the Service Center to improve access to water services for the residents of Area 23 and surrounding areas.

Earlier the day , the Minister also handed over a water tank at Bwaila Hospital. The tank has a capacity of about 100mÂł, equivalent to approximately one million litres. This tank will ensure 24/7 access to water for the hospital, even during maintenance works, to ensure continuity of operations.

Furthermore, the Minister handed over four E-Madzi water kiosks at Biwi Triangle to help people operating in the industrial area access clean water and sanitation services.

These initiatives are very critical towards the President Chakwera’s commitment to ensure that every Malawian should have access to potable water by 2030.

Commenting on the new offfices , Senior Chief Tsabango commended Lilongwe Water Board for the guesture. The chief said his people were moving long distance to access the services at Biwi Triangle which was very far.

Lilongwe Water Board Chairperson Inkosi ya Makosi M’mbelwa , asssured the people of Area 23 of more development initiatives.

The Inkosi urged spoke highly on the need of taking care of the Water Board property.

During the function Mayor of Lilongwe City Richard Banda and Memeber of Parliament for the area Ulemu Msungama were all available to witness the function.
