By Kondanani Chilimunthaka President Lazarus Chakwera has expressed delight with aspirations by Indian investors who have shown interest to invest in Malawi. Hosting the delegation of Indian Business Leaders at Kamuzu Palace in the Capital Lilongwe, President Chakwera reiterated the need for Malawi and India to diversify trade beyond traditional exports like Soya beans and Region peas. “I am delighted to learn that the delegation has already engaged ADMARC, and Mega Farms Unit as preliminary areas of interest for investment collaboration” Said President Chakwera. Writing on his Facebook page, President Chakwera assured Malawians that the business delegation has given Malawi strong guarantees for potential business investments in the country. Led by Sunil Hukumayrays Rajdev, Trade Commissioner, the delegation reaffirmed India’s commitment to supporting Malawi’s development through continued collaboration and investment, saying the delegation is in the country to explore collaboration opportunities with the Malawi Government for potential business investments. In his remarks, Minister of Trade, Sosten Gwengwe expressed gratitude for the delegation, saying it comprises investors from various fields such as Agriculture, Trade, Mining, Health, among other sectors. During the audience, Indian High Commissioner to Malawi, Shri Gopalakhrishnan, and Malawi’s High Commissioner to India, Leonard Mengezi were present. The delegation has since presented a State-of-the-art Swayam Diagnostic Medical Machine to President Chakwera as a symbol for India’s commitment to assist Malawi in the healthcare sector.
