President Dr Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera has outlined his vision of carrying former President Dr Hastings Kamuzu Banda legacy till 2030. Speaking at Kamuzu stadium in Blantyre during the Independence day celebrations , Chakwera said he is likely to remain in power and finish his 10 year mandate. Chakwera challenged that Malawians should help him to realise his dream finishing the race in 2030. He said people should stop lies that he will leave office soon not at all. He urged people to work hard and develop this country since he is not going out of the power as some people would like Malawians to believe. Commenting on the life of Dr Hastings Kamuzu Banda, the president appealed to Malawians to draw lessons from Kamuzu Banda. Chakwera said in honouring the legacy of the founding father, Ngwazi Dr. Hastings Kamuzu Banda, Malawians gathered in Blantyre for celebrations, where they reflected on his indelible contributions to Malawi. He added that Kamuzu was a great leader deserving such commemorations. “We are, therefore, obliged as a nation to remember his life by drawing lessons from his philosophy of patriotism, integrity and hard work and I pledge to use my entire tenure up to 2030 to build a new Malawi that mirrors the good outcomes of the Kamuzu reign,” he said. The atmosphere is so electric in the commercial capital of Blantyre as His Excellency, Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera, President of the Republic of Malawi, leads Malawians in honouring the life and legacy of Father and Founder of Malawi nation, late Ngwazi Dr. Hastings Kamuzu Banda through the commemoration of Kamuzu Day at Kamuzu Stadium. During the event business came to a standstill as a sea of party faithfuls, clad in red and white Malawi Congress Party (MCP) colours walked at a snail’s pace through the Chipembere Highway to the main entrance of the stadium where they were joined by President Chakwera who they escorted into the football arena. Multitudes of people filled up the stadium where several activities were lined up including prayers and a football match between local giants Mighty Mukuru Wanderers and Silver Strikers, among several others. The Malawi leader was welcomed on arrival by Vice President Saulos Klaus Chilima and several high ranking government officials. Dr Hastings Kamuzu Banda was born 14 May, 1898 and died on 25 November 1997. He was leader of Malawi from 1964 to 1994. He served as Prime Minister from independence in 1964 to 1966, when Malawi was a Dominion Commonwealth realm. He is well known for laying the path of developments which Malawians are currently enjoying.
