The Malawi government under the caring and inclusive leadership of President Dr Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera has today announced a Mwk 1 billion boost towards operations of Non-Governmental Organisations in Malawi.

The 2023 NGO sector report, indicated that over 120 NGOs were dormant and at least 40 NGOs were closed mainly due to financial reasons. It is against this background that His Excellency Dr Lazarus Chakwera directed the Ministry of Gender, Community Development and Social Welfare and Non-Governmental Organisations Regulatory Authority (NGORA) to put in place strategies that will enhance capacity of local NGOs in the country.

Following this, the Malawi government has in the 2024/2025 financial budget allocated Mwk 1 billion through NGORA to the NGO for their operations.

The launch of this NGO fund is taking place this morning at Amaryllis Hotel in Blantyre and Minister of Gender Community Development and Social Welfare Hon. Jean Sendeza is the guest of Honour.
