The governments of Malawi and Ethiopia have agreed to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on how best to deal with migration constraints between the people of two nations. The sentiments were made at a meeting which the justice minister of Ethiopia Belayhun Yirga and Malawi’s minister of Homeland Security Kenneth Zikhale Ng’oma had on Wednesday in Addis Ababa -Ethiopia. Ethiopia’s minister expressed gratitude to Malawi government for hosting Ethiopians, a development he attributed to good bilateral relationship between the two nations. He further stated that there is a need for the two countries to sign an MoU on matters of migration which he believes can be a solution to movement challenges faced by people of the two nations. Meanwhile, Malawi’s minister of homeland security Kenneth Zikhale Ng’oma has applauded the Ethiopian government for the interest in dealing with issues of migration. Ng’oma said: “Malawi must benefit from such agreements as the country is hosting more Ethiopians who come as refugees”. He is of the view that this will create a platform where two nations can exchange views on matters of illegal immigrants. Some of the Malawi’s officials who attended the meeting include: the ambassador of Malawi in Ethiopia Kester Ephraim Kaphaizi, Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Homeland Security responsible for Administration Erica Maganga and Ministry’s official Mercy kaira.
