Ministry of Education has terminated 51 contracts, which was awarded to various construction companies to build girls hostels, classroom blocks, school laboratories, and many other designated work.

Secretary for Education, Associate Professor Mangani Chilala Katundu has confirmed this in an exclusive interview in Lilongwe.

Katundu said the decision has been made in order to save public resources.

What happens according to the Secretary, when contracts stall like that they become so expensive.

Prior to the decision, the Ministry in August invited all the concerned parties to inform the Ministry discontentment over the way they have been carrying out the project.

What it means, according to Katundu, no party will pay each other in all the projects because contracts have exiting sections.

The Ministry has since readvertised the work looking for new contractors to carry out the work.
