While Malawians were busy with their parallel theories over the June 10 2024 plane crash , it has emerged that all those who were busy concocting those theories never showed up to galvanise and cement their narrative. This has been known through a press statement that the inquiry committee chair Justice Jabbar Alide has signed dated 14 November 2024. “The Commission would like to observe that, while the response of the individuals summoned to appear before the Commission has been very good, the response from the members of the general public to the call for information, and voluntary presentation of any information as regards the accident has been very poor,” the statement reads in part. The Commission has since lambasted the general public for failing to appear before the inquiry and testify than just being spectators. “Considering the national interest and the wide debate that the aircraft accident generated and the subsequent calls for the inquiry in both the social and mainstream media, it was the Commission’s expectation that members of the general public were going to respond to the Commission’s call,” the statement further said. The Commission has also disclosed that during phase 1 and 2 in the Northern Region, it has managed to conduct on the site visits to all places relevant to the investigation, saying so far, it has interviewed and managed to obtain information from 55 witnesses. So far, the Commission says it has completed phase 2 work in the Eastern Region, particularly at the Malawi Air Force, Zomba Air Force base and Zomba District Council and is now proceeding to conduct phase 3 in the South, specifically in Blantyre from 15th to 16th November, 2024.
