Malawi renowned and celebrated political economist , Dr Ben Dzolowere congratulates Lilongwe Business Owners (LBO) for protecting their businesses following various demonstrations attempts in the capital Lilongwe but blocked along their way. The political scientist had this to say, “Laws guarantee various freedoms such as freedoms of worship, conscience, assembly, speech, press and demonstrations. However, these freedoms have responsibilities attached.” He continued, “Lessons are clear that Lilongwe-based business persons suffer losses in the hands of thugs disguising as demonstrators. They are wolves in ship skin. What Lilongwe vendors are doing in protecting their property is very commendable.” “The fact is finding business start up capital is not easy. I salute business owners for loving their businesses,” added the good governance commentator. “These people organising demonstrations habour chaotic motives aimed at destroying the beautiful Lilongwe City currently under modern construction,” he further opined. “Nevertheless, the good news is that vendors have vowed to continue protecting their enterprises,” he stressed. “While demonstrations are benchmarks of democracy, there is a need for national responsibility. Similarly, business owners must ensure that thugs do not vandalise their hard-earned businesses. We are all of the knowledge that the private sector plays a vital role in driving the economy,” concluded Dzolowere. Another legal expert just said people are tired of losing their businesses, let these demonstrators engage the authorities before going into the streets.
