The Multi-Stakeholder Group (MSG) of CoST Malawi has elected Eng. Sam Biton as its new chairperson on 17th December, 2024 at an ordinary MSG meeting in Lilongwe replacing a long serving Joe Ching’ani. Eng. Bitoni who represents the Malawi Engineering Institution (MEI) on the MSG will be deputized by Robert Mkwezalamba of Malawi Human Rights Consultative Committee (HRCC). In his acceptance speech, Eng. Biton pledged to carry on the mantle handed over to him by Ching’ani to ensure that the principles of CoST are fully entrenched in the infrastructure development ethos of Malawi. He also applauded his predecessor for his personal commitment to transparency and accountability in the construction sector. CoST – The Infrastructure Transparency Initiative in Malawi is championed by His Excellency the President, Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera, and it’s aimed at ensuring good governance in the implementation of public infrastructure. CoST is governed on a tripartite arrangement with the private sector, civil society and government being represented by various individuals.
