CURRENT LIFE

The Obama Presidential Center – Chicago
This is the big focus right now. The $850 million campus on Chicago’s South Side officially opened to the public in June 2026, right around Juneteenth.
It includes a museum, library, performing arts hall, athletic center “Home Court,” and community spaces.

Barack and Michelle surprised the first 100 visitors in person. He’s called it a hub for civic life and for developing the next generation of leaders.

2. Obama Foundation and Mentorship

Through the Obama Foundation he’s focused on youth leadership, civic engagement, and programs like My Brother’s Keeper. He says his post-presidency effort is about “supporting the next generation of leaders” across continents. He’s also mentoring rising political figures. a740ef5c

3. Politics and Public Commentary

He is not retired from politics. In 2026 he’s been campaigning for Democrats, doing endorsement requests that stay high, and speaking on issues like redistricting, misinformation, and democracy.

Personal life & health

He and Michelle still live between DC, Chicago, and their home in Martha’s Vineyard.
At 64 he says he feels “great” but is adjusting fitness: less full-court basketball, more “north-south” running and stretching. He jokes Michelle is “way ahead” on flexibility.
