The Anglican Diocese of Southern Malawi is set to launch a new guild called ‘St Joseph’ to support boys aged 6 to 20 in their liturgical worship, spiritual formation and leadership development. The launch takes place on Saturday at St Paul’s Anglican Cathedral in Blantyre. “Through St Joseph Guild, the Anglican Diocese of Southern Malawi will foster spiritual growth, leadership, and community service to the boys,” said the Guild’s Chaplain, Canon Ralph Mponda According to Mponda, the Diocese also has the St Agness Guild, which capacitates young girls with mentorship through the Mothers’ Union Guild. “The guild’s purpose is clear: to help boys grow in their Christian faith, become true disciples of Christ, and prepare them for adulthood and service. Being a member of St Joseph is a journey towards becoming useful vessels in the church and society,” Canon Mponda said in an interview. He explained that Avuwi, which is the Men’s Ministry in the Diocese, will be responsible for mentoring members of St Joseph. Bishop Rt Rev. Alinafe Kalemba, alongside Canon Mponda and guest of honour Mr Daniel Baluwa, a dedicated teacher for boys in the Church, will be among the other dignitaries at the event. Other highlights would include the launch of the St Joseph Training Manuals, followed by the commissioning and induction of new members. As the boys grow older, they will transition into the Avuwi Guild at age 21, continuing their path of faith and service. “St Joseph’s Guild promises to change lives, filling a long-standing void and empowering young boys to rise with confidence and purpose.” Said Mponda The Anglican Church in Malawi operates under the Church of the Province of Central Africa and has four dioceses, namely Southern Malawi, Lake Malawi, Northern Malawi, and Upper Shire.
