By Zenak Matekenya Malawi Exclusive Second Vice President Enock Kamzingeni Chihana Saturday arrived in Durban, South Africa for the 46th Ordinary Summit of Southern African Development Committee (SADC) Heads of State and Government scheduled for August 17, 2026. Malawis High Commissioner to South Africa Stella Ndau, Minister of Foreign Affairs George Chaponda, governement officials from Malawi and South Africa welcomed Chihana at King Shaka International Airport around 6 pm. From the airport, Chihana was briefed officially on the SADC Organ Troika Summit and the 46th SADC Ordinary Meeting which he will attend on Sunday and Monday, respectively. Malawi is the current chair for the SADC Organ Troika on Politics, Defence and Security after taking over from Tanzania while Eswatini is the incoming chair. After participating in the Troika Summit on Sunday, the Second Veep will attend a State Banquet hosted by South African President Cyril Ramaphosa. This year’s summit, chaired by South Africa, is being held under the theme, “Resilient, Sustainable and Inclusive Industrialisation through Infrastructure Development, Agricultural and Critical Minerals Transformation in Pursuit of a Just World”. Focal areas of the theme include building competitive regional manufacturing and value chains, expanding transport, energy and water networks, modernising farming and agro-processing, and local refining and beneficiation of critical minerals.
