Government Leader of the House in Parliament Richard Chimwendo Banda has rebuked Leader of Opposition George Chaponda for failing to condemn Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) orchestrated violences in the country. Responding to his presentation in Parliament, Chimwendo said Chaponda has failed to provide evidence of Malawians who are blocking demonstrations. Said Chimwendo Banda, “Malawi Congress Party respects the rule of law and that the party has no right to change the constitution.” According to the local government minister, business persons are entitled to their enterprises’ protection. Chimwendo Banda further condemned Chaponda over the brutal murder of MCP youth leader, in Ndirande, Mavuto Chimwaza, who was just discovered dead outside his house. Minister of Information and Digitalization Moses Kunkuyu attended the funeral ceremony at Nyambadwe Community Ground on behalf of President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera. “You also deliberately failed to discipline DPP Deputy Secretary General Daud Chikwanje for inciting violence at a political rally,” added Chimwendo Banda as he reminded Chaponda of a democratically assassinating video in which Chikwanje directed Malawians to be torching down anyone in MCP regalia. “I urge you Honourable Chaponda to advise DPP members and all Malawians the need of promoting peaceful demonstrations. Such protests are always allowed but if you announced that close all shops what reaction do you anticipate from shop owners ,” questioned the Dowa North East parliamentarian.
