Former President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera has admitted that some Malawi Congress Party (MCP) officials contributed to the party’s loss of government after they abandoned teamwork for individualism.

Speaking in his capacity as MCP leader during an interactive meeting at Chileka in Blantyre on Monday, Chakwera said while in government, some officials started looking at each other differently, with everyone opting for individualism instead of the much needed teamwork.

Stressing the importance of teamwork, Chakwera said the spirit of team is better demonstrated in the game of soccer, where even the top scorer needs fellow teammates to score.

Chakwera further revealed that some office bearers failed to serve Malawians reasonably as they were mandated to do by the leadership.

He said this was a recipe for failure to get back into government and urged party members to embrace unity and collective responsibility as the party reorganizes.

The meeting at Chileka is part of Chakwera’s ongoing engagements with MCP structures in the Southern Region.
