The Public Affairs Committee (PAC) has vehemently condemned the political violence that occurred on Sunday at the Henry Henderson Institute (HHI) in Blantyre during the 150th anniversary celebrations of the Blantyre Synod of the CCAP.

PAC Spokesperson, Reverend Clifford Matonga, said the organization was surprised by the incident, noting that upon assuming the high office of President, President Arthur Peter Mutharika had pledged that there would be no political violence in the country.

Matonga said by choosing to perpetrate violence at a venue of thanksgiving prayers, the perpetrators had shown disrespect not only to the organizers but also to God.

The violence saw a group of DPP vigilantes stone a vehicle belonging to MCP official Moses Kunkuyu as opposition officials arrived for the celebrations. Police in Blantyre confirmed only one vehicle was stoned.

Rev. Matonga has called on the Malawi Police Service to swiftly arrest those responsible to ensure such a tendency never happens again, especially at religious gatherings meant to promote peace and unity.
