It was not the usual birthday bash of flashing lights, expensive bottles and loud music. It was three hours of deep prayer, worship and thanksgiving.

Malawi’s renowned business icon of Creck Hardware and Genwral Suppliers, Apostle Clifford Kawinga, who is also Founder and President of Salvation for All Ministries International, on Thursday 22 November, 2026, held his birthday in a way many have described as “the way to go.”

We are talking of a business magnet owning chains of businesses including Creck Hardware and Creck Holdings, a man who could easily fly to USA, book the most expensive hotel, eat the best meals and hire an expensive band for his birthday. But that was not the case with Apostle Kawinga.

Instead, the man who commands one of the largest hardware empires in the country chose to be in church, on his knees, with his flock – dedicating his life to the glory of God.

Dressed simply and humbly, Apostle Kawinga spent over three hours in prayers, thanking the Almighty God for the gift of life, for grace, and for sustaining his businesses and ministry.

“I thank Almighty God for giving me life. All that I am and all that I have is because of His grace,” Apostle Kawinga said, as he addressed the congregation.

The simplicity of the celebration has drawn praise from many Malawians.

One member of Salvation for All Ministries who attended the service said: “This is true humility. Many rich people would show off, but our father chose to show us God first. He has taught us that a birthday is not about cake, it is about thanking the giver of life.”

Another congregant from Lilongwe added: “Apostle Kawinga is a billionaire but you cannot see pride in him. He celebrated with us, the ordinary people, praying. That is leadership.”

A business associate who preferred anonymity said: “Kawinga could have closed Creck and thrown a lavish party at BICC, but he chose the altar. This is why God keeps lifting him. He puts God first in business and in life.”

For many, Apostle Kawinga’s birthday has set a new standard – that true style is not in opulence, but in giving glory to God.
