Malawi President Dr Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera says his administration remains committed to implement and lobby for good wages, a conducive environment for workers and an effective pension scheme. Speaking at the Labour Day commemoration in Blantyre’s Njamba Freedom Park, President Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera expressed gratitude to Malawi’s workforce for their tireless dedication and assured them that government remains steadfast in its commitment to creating a conducive environment for all workers. Chakwera said he was aware of challenges the pensioners have been going through such as late payment of their money. The president promised that the problems are now over; “My administration remains committed to implement and lobby for good wages, a conducive environment for workers and an effective pension scheme,” he said. The president commended the day saying its best time to celebrate the dedication of workers who toil every day to gain economic and social stability of their respective households and the nation. He said the day Commemorated under the theme: “Investing in Social Protection In Achieving Decent Work For All”, the day obliges us to advocate for meaningful unionism at the workplace. This is the first step towards attaining a vibrant labour force that is motivated and focused to build a better Malawi. He said his Government will always submit to the Sustainable Development Goal number eight which seeks to “Promote inclusive and sustainable economic growth, employment and decent work for all.
