President Lazarus Chakwera has said late Ngwazi Kamuzu Banda is the foundation of the Malawi nation whose visionary leadership focused on uniting all the regions and tribes in Malawi.

According to President Chakwera, 14th May remains a memorable day as the nation remembers and celebrates the life of the late Ngwazi.

Speaking during this year’s Kamuzu Day celebrations held at Kamuzu Stadium in the commercial city of Blantyre on 14th May, Chakwera told the nation that Kamuzu laid the foundation and he remains the foundation that Malawi has to be built on.

“I thank the family of Kamuzu for accepting that the commemoration of Kamuzu be conducted rotationally in all the regions, because the Ngwazi is the foundation, and centered on providing leadership that united all the regions and developed the whole nation” Said President Chakwera.

Malawi leader commended the late Ngwazi Kamuzu Banda for establishing developments which still stand strong today including health facilities, schools, roads, sports facilities, and markets among others.

“This is why when I came into government, I promised to unite all Malawians by continuing with developments in all the regions. Therefore to respect Kamuzu Banda, I will not stop initiating developments in all the regions to attain the 2063 agenda” added Chakwera.

He further urged Malawians not to listen or follow politicians who want to divide Malawi through politics of castigation and regionalism.

Speaking earlier, Ken Kandodo representing the Kamuzu family thanked President Chakwera for directing that the event be taking place in all the regions of Malawi and the support tendered towards the event.

Kandodo also thanked Malawians for standing with the family all the years the event has been taking place.

In his speech described Kamuzu as a hard worker who wanted to be self reliant and well knowledgeable.

This year’s Kamuzu Day has been celebrated under the theme; “The Legacy for Patriotism, Integrity and Hard Work”
