President Lazarus Chakwera on Thursday afternoon led Malawians in sending-off the body of the late former First Lady, Patricia Shanil Dzimbiri from Lilongwe to Balaka where her body will be laid to rest on Friday, 14th June 2024.

Speaking on behalf of President Chakwera during the ceremony at Sunset Funeral Services in Kanengo, Minister of Local Government, Unity, and Culture, Richard Chimwendo Banda said President Chakwera is heartbroken following the demise of the former First Lady in the plane crash in Chikangawa, that also claimed the life of the country’s Vice President, Saulos Chilima and seven others.

Chimwendo described the late Shanil Dzimbiri as a dedicated former government official who promoted and protected children for their education.

“Apart from mourning the country’s Vice President, President Chakwera is shocked with the loss of eight other productive citizens, one of them, former First Lady, Madam Patricia Shanil Dzimbiri, who selflessly served this country as the First Lady, by among others promoting women in various areas of development” Said Chimwendo representing President Chakwera.

He further said by serving as a Member of Parliament between 2014 and 2019, Dzimbiri showed her passion and patriotism for Malawi, adding that she continued serving the nation until the time of her death on Monday, 10th June 2024 in Mzimba district.

But Chimwendo called upon all Malawians to put their faith in God, saying during such times, only God becomes the beacon of hope and comfort.

Late Dzimbiri will be laid to rest at her home in Balaka district on Friday 14th June, 2024.
