Hon Uchizi Mkandawire Health officials in Karonga, the northern border district of Malawi has described Malawi Congress Party (MCP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Karonga South constituency, Uchizi Mkandawire as a health ambassador of the district. The District Health Officer (DHO), Dr. David Sibale said this on Saturday night during the St. Anne’s hospital fundraising event which was held at Chilumba secondary school hall in the district. Speaking during the event, Dr. Sibale said honourable Mkandawire has always been on forefront supporting the health department in the district using both his own pocket as well as public fund. According to him, apart from his constituency, honourable Mkandawire has been active when it comes to bailing out the health department at district level. “I am not saying this to please him just because he has donated something today but the fact. Honourable Mkandawire is like the district’s health ambassador. His door is always open especially when we are in problem,” said Sibale. Group village headman Mwaungulu while concurring with Sibale said his area has become the first constituency to have its own mortuary in the district. “It is rarely to see politicians supporting health department. Many of them opt to condole the decease families but honourable Mkandawire has been different,” he disclosed. Honourable Mkandawire representative assured the residents for more support in order to save lives. He said Mkandawire who is also the Minister of Youths and Sports believe that some problems the district is facing can be handled by its own citizens. The aim of the event was to fundraise fund that will help to build a fence for St. Anne’s hospital which is close to the road.
