President Lazarus Chakwera on Friday, 26th January 2024 urged Malawians to take full responsibility of projects being initiated in their respective areas, saying as a country Malawi should not be waiting for others to come and help in renovating the country’s infrastructure and facilities.

Speaking during a development rally he addressed at Mwanza Community Ground soon after the groundbreaking ceremony for State-of-the-art, Mwanza Community Stadium, President Chakwera said he visited the district to see for himself challenges facing the district and appreciate the Police housing project currently underway.

However, President Chakwera urged Malawians to take care of the projects being initiated in their areas, saying what he saw at Mwanza Hospital and Mwanza Secondary School was so shocking as the two facilities which were inaugurated in 1981 by late President Kamuzu Banda were in dilapidated state due to lack of proper care.

“Malawians sometimes we have a problem in caring for facilities we construct until they dilapidate. Let us all learn to take good care of the facilities we have, failing which, our children and grandchildren will suffer because of our carelessness” Said President Chakwera.

President Chakwera further said he will continue promoting unity and development in all districts of the country regardless of political affiliations, assuring people of Mwanza that they will not be left behind until they see and enjoy meaningful developments.

But the Malawi leader appealed to all Malawians and government partners to hold hands in making sure there is tangible development even in rural areas.

In his remarks, Member of Parliament for Mwanza Central, Nicholas Dausi said since 1981 when late Kamuzu Banda inaugurated Mwanza Hospital and Mwanza Secondary School, the district has not been enjoying development, commending President Chakwera for realizing the dream of the district having a Stadium which Dausi said other governments used to lie to the people of Mwanza on the project.

Dausi then requested the government to consider initiating more developments in the district including road networks to connect areas like Tulonkhondo and Kunenekude in his constituency.

During the rally, President Chakwera welcomed into Malawi Congress Party, former First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Esther Mcheka Chilenje and Redson Munlo who is the leader for the Mass Movement for Economic Revolution group.

Meanwhile, Chakwera has said time has come to have people like the late Nelson Khonje who came from Mwanza and once served for 13 years as Speaker of Malawi Parliament be honored for their service to the nation.
