Dr Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera Malawi President Dr Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera is tomorrow 9 February, 2024, destined to deliver State of the Nation Address in line with Section 89 subsection 3 of the Malawi Constitution. Malawi Constitution directs that the President shall each year, immediately before the consideration of the official budget, attend Parliament and shall. “Address Parliament on the state of the nation and on the future policies of the Government at that time as well as reporting on the policies of the previous year; and respond to questions, ” According to the constitution, the President shall be called to Parliament to answer questions at such times as may be prescribed by the Standing Orders of Parliament or on a motion of the National Assembly or Senate. The same constitution says subject to this Constitution and any Act of Parliament, the President shall exercise all other powers reasonably necessary and incidental to the functions of his or her office in accordance with this Constitution. General analysis so far indicates that President Chakwera has fulfilled a number of development activities that he articulated during his last State of the nation address. For example the rehabilitating and upgrading the 72km Marka -Bangula railway section, upgrading 31Mm Chitipa-llomba road , Capacity improvement of Kenyatta drive and Mzimba street. Chakwera also tackled issues to ro to do with rehabilitation of M1 road from kia turn off to Mzimba turn off and Kacheche to Chiweta Again the Government has upgraded Nsanje to Marka road on which five major bridges and rail way/road grade separation have already been constructed with a mention of upgrading of Dzaleka , Ntchisi, Mpalo-Malomo road The president has also fulfilled jis promise on rehabilitation of M5 road from Balaka Market to Kaphatenga -Dwangwa -Mukwiya .
