Malawi Leader Dr Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera has reiterated government’s commitment of cementing great partnership with churches in serving Malawians. He was speaking on Saturday when he met members of the Last Church of God at Mzuzu State Lodge. He said there is need for the church and government to work together because they are both partners in development. Chakwera said the church and government are all in the noble business of leading the people and providing for their needs, hence the need for a partnership. He advised the church to avoid destroying the country because of politics. “We are all here to cater to the needs of our people. Continue spreading the gospel,” emphasized the Malawi leader. “As government, we will continue working with you so that we continue providing for the needs of our people and develop our country.” In his remarks, President of the Last Church of God Reverend Yilawa Nyirenda, thanked President Chakwera for all the support he has been rendering to the church, even before he ascended to the presidency. He assured the Malawi leader that the church will continue working hand in hand with government, to help develop the country. “The church is very grateful for your support,” said Nyirenda. “We are all behind your government.” Rev. Nyirenda also extended an invitation to the President to attend celebrations, commemorating 100 years of the church’s existence in Malawi, next year. The church says it has over 2 million members countrywide.
