Today 30th April, 2024, His Excellency President Dr Lazarus Chakwera led Malawians in joining the global community in celebrating World Creativity and Innovation Day organized by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).

At the event held at the Bingu International Convention Center (BICC), various events and activities took place, showcasing the creativity and ingenuity of Malawians.

In his remarks, President Dr. Chakwera restated his administration’s resolve to support life-changing ideas that will advance societies along the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

“Innovation gives chance to our youth to contribute in building sustainable communities through improved governance and service delivery systems across all aspects of human development”.

“We have created an enabling environment to ensure that ideas and well incubated and nurtured to fruition to support national development,” said the Malawi leader.

He also called upon different investors to complement efforts on mobilization of resources towards transformative creativity and innovation.

“From art exhibitions and music performances to innovation fairs and hackathons, the day was a vibrant celebration of the power of creativity to transform lives and communities in Malawi,” he said.

At the event, Ministries of Mining & Tourism won the Public Sector Innovation Awards in advancing innovation in the public sector which is key to achieving sustainable development & Malawi’s Development Goals.

As Malawi continues on its path towards sustainable development, World Creativity and Innovation Day served as a reminder of the importance of nurturing creativity and innovation to achieve a brighter future.
