President Lazarus Chakwera who was on 8-day official duties in Dallas, Texas-USA, and Nairobi-Kenya arrived back home in the afternoon of Friday 10th May, 2024 through Kamuzu International Airport in the Capital Lilongwe, saying the tour has been successful. Chakwera said the two summits he attended in the United States of America, and Kenya have opened doors for investors to Malawi including in Agriculture. Addressing the gathering at Kamuzu International Airport upon his arrival back home, Chakwera said there are a lot of investors ready to invest in the country, adding that these development projects are not part of the already approved budget by the Parliament. “Almost 15 months ago, I witnessed the agreement signed by Ms. Albright and Honorable Sosten Gwengwe when he was Minister of Finance that MCC should assist us with roads construction in some highly agriculture areas where farmers find it tough to take home and various markets their farm produces. Having fulfilled the necessary conditions to access MCC Compact for construction of these roads, Ms. Albright is expected in the country next week to launch the projects. These are not projects under the already approved budget by our Parliament” Said President Chakwera. The President told the nation that apart from the MCC projects, some investors are also coming to invest in other sectors including agriculture. Speaking earlier, Secretary General for Malawi Congress Party, Eisenhower Mkaka applauded President Chakwera for various projects in the country, saying they are being quickly done. On his part, the Regional Chairman for the Center, Patrick Zebron Chilondola said Malawi Congress Party is so strong over opposition parties as evidenced by defections of members from other parties, and that in 2025 it will have landslide victory. During the rally, MCP member, Uladi Mussah refuted rumors that he had dumped the party.
