Human Rights Consultative Committee, (HRCC) expresses profound gratitude for peace and tranquility shown during the burial of late Vice President Saulos Chilima.

HRCC says despite some pockets of violence and bad mouthing expressed by some political learders and selected cultural groups and social media influencers, HRCC described the burial ceremony as somber, reconciliatory, unifying and general peaceful.

In a press statement released on 18th June, 2024 signed by HRCC board chairperson Robert Mkwezalamba it has applauded perseverance shown by MCP and it’s supporters including President Lazarus Chakwera’s frank, open and reconciliatory eulogy which did not attempt to look down at anyone but reasoned with anyone to hold and promote peace while looking towards an independent inquiry.

HRCC has also applauded former President Peter Mutharika and Madam Mutharika for gracing the occasion besides other leaders as their presence has given hope for united Malawi.

“As we turn to the next episode of unearthing the cause of the crash and death, we can only appeal for more peace and unity, so as to arrive at acceptable results and conclusion of the investigation,” the statement reads in part.

They are therefore pleading with the citizenry as the country continue to mourn the departed to reflect on what legacy they want to further on the late Chilima.

They are also pleading with political parties to exercise peace and unity leardership as they work together towards development of this country.
