In a dramatic turn of events, Member of Parliament for Nkhatabay South, who is also Minister of Homeland Security Dr Kenneth Zikhale Ng’oma on Wednesday made a hondorous announcement that he is destined to stand during the forth coming Malawi Congress Party (MCP) convention on the ticket of First Vice President. Previously this position was occupied by Hurry Mlekanjara Mkandawire , who took over from Richard Msowoya. While Zikhale was serving as Director of strategic plan , this time has thought of going a step further going on top position. Making this announcement, in Mzuzu, Dr Zikhale Ng’oma says his agenda is to improve wellfare of MCP members who are the owners of the party. He says once voted into power he will ensure that he walks with them in this five year journey. What it means now is that Zikhale will compete with Speaker of national Assembly Catherine Gotani Hara. Speaking during the interviews, Ng’oma said he came in the Northern region to announce that he is standing during the convention as Deputy President having serving as Director of strategic planning. He said he is an experienced politician who has vast knowledge on party governance. “This is the time I want to demonstrate my capability that yes I can manage such a big position,” he said. Meanwhile a political commentator, Dr Dickson Dzolowere says Dr Zikhale Ng’oma is indeed an accomplished politician befitting such position. He said having served as Chief of Staff during Bingu wa Mutharika era , he he really gained experience from him and other party leaders.
