Malawi leader President Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera, on Thursday toured Demeter Mega Farm, in the area of Traditional Authority Mkaya in Balaka District. President Chakwera has intensified encouraging both individuals and the private sector to venture into mega farming, in his quest to revamp Malawi’s agricultural sector. Malawi leader has made it abundantly clear that mega farms have the potential to significantly contribute to the country’s economic growth by 2063. Established in 2004, Demeter Agriculture Limited is a fully certified integrated seed company, producing certified seed of opv and hybrid maize, as well as an assortment of legumes like groundnuts, soyabeans, cowpeas, sugar beans and pigeon peas. The seed is processed, treated and packed at the facility in Lilongwe before being distributed through a network of outlets, as well as other reputable distributors. President Chakwera in the company of First Lady Madam Monica Chakwera, was welcomed on arrival by Vice President Right Honourable Dr Micheal Bizwick Usi, Minister of Agriculture Sam Kawale and several top government officials before being taken on a tour around the farm.
