The Minister of Homeland Security Kenneth Zikhale Ng’oma has expressed his ministry’s commitment in addressing migration management challenges in the country.

Ng’oma was speaking on Thursday in Lilongwe at the launch of the 2024-2029 Strategic Plan for the Department of Immigration and Citizenship Services.

According to Ng’oma the Strategic Plan is a catalyst for the development of the Department of Immigration and Citizenship Services to serve the citizenry with excellence and integrity.

Ng’oma stressed that the strategic plan responds to the challenges hindering the Department’s ability to fully deliver on its mandate which among others includes; outdated legislation, Limited resources and increased demands for services.

The Minister further pledged to fully support the implementation of the plan by mobilising resources, partnerships as well as policy frameworks.

He has since called upon relevant stakeholders to collaborate with his ministry in building a modern and efficient Department of Immigration and Citizenship Services that meets the expectations of the citizenry and contributes to prosperity as well as security of the nation.

“This event reflects our shared commitment to enhancing the Department’s role in securing our borders, facilitating lawful migration and delivering essential services to the citizens and visitors alike.

I am grateful to His Excellency the State President for his commitment to address migration challenges and his government support guidance to all matters of operations for the department of immigration and citizenship services,” Ng’oma explained.

The strategic plan is expected to run for the next five years and will be built on the pillar ranging from streamlining of the immigration process,
strengthening border, management, Promoting public engagement, Enhancing institutional capacity as well as upholding integrity and accountability among other objectives.
