Zikhale Ng’oma warns imbibers against drive and drinking during festive season

Minister of Homeland Security Kenneth Zikhale Ng’oma says as the country and the entire world celebrates Christmas and New Year festive season, Malawi Police Service (MPS) and other security agencies, has put in place stringent measures to prevent crimes during this vital period.

Addressing a press conference in Lilongwe, Ng’oma said the ministry has enhanced security measures in all cities, towns and districts across the country to alleviate public fear of criminal activities, address potential threats and manage traffic effectively.

“We further urge the general public to cooperate with the law enforcement agencies in assuring safer communities throughout this festive season and beyond. This initiative aligns with the vision of His Excellency the State President Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera for a safe and secure Malawi,” Zikhale Ng’oma said.

Ng’oma warns all imbibers to be very careful and avoid drinking and driving. Otherwise heavy fines will be paid.

Regarding home safety and security, the ministry remind Malawians to leave a responsible, trustworthy and mature person in charge of their homes when attending prayers, festivities or any other activities.

He has since advised all road users to exercise caution while driving, in particular, drivers are strongly cautioned against over speeding, reckless overtaking and driving under the influence of alcohol to minimize the risk of road accidents.

He has also assured the general public that police officers have already been deployed in all public spaces to maintain peace and order for safe and secure festive atmosphere.

The Minister adds that any violators of the law will be apprehended and prosecuted accordingly as Malawi is a law biding country and it should remain as such.

The Minister therefore wishes the general public a safe and joyful festive season.
