President Dr Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera newly instituted cabinet continue receiving praise from various quarters for being gender senstive. Other quarters have commended the cabinet for the positive regional representation. Adding sugar in the cup of tea, Malawi Public Universities Students Union (MAPUSU) is commending President Dr Lazarus Chakwera for the introduction of a stand alone Ministry of Higher Education, saying the decision will strategically enhance quality of education at all levels. Gershom Nyirenda, President of MAPUSU said this in a press statement highlighting that such a special and independent higher learning institution will critically help in infrastructure development, research development and policy development for higher learning helping students in universities. “We expect the new ministry to improve accessibility to higher education such as introducing new measures that includes every student including needy students and those from poor grounds,” Nyirenda said. He further said the move will support innovation, address students welfare and engage students in decision making as they play great role in shaping policies for Malawi. The president highlights students role in offering unwavering support to the ministry in building an inclusive, robust and strong higher learning institutions to turn the vision into reality. Nyirenda therefore urged the ministry to take swift actions to bring more positive impacts for its intended purpose.
