Governance and Human Rights Advocate Undule Mwakasungula applauds Public Affairs Committee (PAC) remarks on President Lazarus Chakwera saying it is reflecting national concerns that many other Malawians have also been expressing.

However Mwakasungula in a press statement released on 14th January, 2025 was quick to react highlighting that most of these challenges including corruption, economic challenges and gaps in service delivery are not new as being inherited from previous regimes with the current government struggling to deal with on a number of national and global factors hence PAC’s remarks act as a continuation on the ongoing conversation about need to address the challenges as a country.

“What stands out in this situation is PAC’s decision to engage directly with the President. This approach shows the value of dialogue and collaboration in addressing national challenges,” reads part of the statement.

He also added that engaging in constructive discussions with leardership offers an opportunity to identify solutions rather that criticism.

“In meeting with President, PAC has demonstrated that dialogue is an effective way to share advice and recommendations. This is a step in the right direction for promoting cooperation and building consensus to address pressing issues Malawians face,” he adds.

Mwakasungula also commends PAC’s remarks on recommendations about developments that have emerged in the current administration including infrastructure development saying they have shown a balanced approach that acknowledge both challenges and achievements.

Mwakasungula therefore urged Malawian citizens to focus on providing action oriented suggestions to help address the challenges the country is facing. For example he says there is a need for enhanced committiment and measures to tackle corruption, improve economic policies, and boost services delivery. He has since asked PAC to continue playing a key role in promoting unity and hope among Malawians.

He reminded citizens to view governance as a shared responsibility as leaders at all levels must listen to feedback, while citizens must actively participate in nation-building.

Mwakasungula concludes by highlighting PAC’s meeting with President Chakwera as a reminder for the need for continuous engagement and need to address challenges.
