Resumption of M’mbelwa University construction excites northern region chiefs

Chiefs in the northern region have expressed gratitude to the Malawi president Dr Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera his will and zeal of revamping the once dead Mombera University which has been rebranded as Inkosi ya Makhosi M’mbelwa University.

Speaking at Mzuzu State Lodge the Chiefs said the University will help their children to attain quality tertiary education.

Speaking during the interaction, the chiefs took turns commending President Chakwera for the various development projects taking place in the North.

The chiefs praised the president for implementing projects such as the construction of modern roads, water projects, the Affordable Inputs Programme, and mega farms.

They also applauded the Malawi leader for making the M’mbelwa University dream a reality.

The chiefs also hailed President Chakwera for abolishing the quota system of selecting students for public universities.

Updating the media, Minister of Local Government, Unity, and Culture, Richard Chimwendo Banda described the meeting as cordial.

He said the chiefs were given a chance to express themselves.

“They discussed issues affecting their communities. This is what servant leadership is all about,” said the minister. “Servant leadership is about sitting down with the people to speak out their mind freely.”

The meeting drew together all three Paramount Chiefs—Kyungu, Chikulamayembe, and M’mbelwa—including senior chiefs and their Traditional Authorities.
