Chakwera ensures sufficient maize in ADMARC

The tour by President Lazarus Chakwera on Wednesday 17th January 2024 has revealed that there is now maize stock in Agricultural Development and Marketing Corporation (ADMARC) depots across the country.

Speaking during his impromptu stop at Zingwangwa ADMARC in the city of Blantyre on his way from Chikwawa, where he was inspecting government projects, Chakwera said his stop at the market depot was to see and appreciate himself if the maize had indeed started being stocked in all depots so that Malawians access the food stuff with ease.

“We have enough maize stock and be assured that everyone will be served. ADMARC has now been restructured and maize prices will go down” Chakwera assured Malawians.

The President further told the huge crowd that gathered at the maize selling point that the government has increased the number of beneficiaries for Social Cash Transfer (Mtukulapakhomo) from 2 million to 3 million as a significant commitment in ensuring that everyone finds money to buy maize.

He then commended donor partners for the assistance being offered to Malawi in making sure that everyone has easy access to maize.

Speaking earlier, Secretary General for MCP, Eisenhower Mkaka applauded President Chakwera for making sure ADMARC depots have maize stock, saying it is timely as the country has been hit by hunger in all parts.

Mkaka added; “In addition to the maize stock you had at NFRA and ADMARC, donors have given you a lot of money to the tune of K30 billion to purchase maize for your people. This is because they have confidence in your leadership”

Chief Zingwangwa in his remarks expressed gratitude on the availability of maize at Zingwangwa depot and the visit by the President.

“You have been the first President to have taken this nation to another level as evidenced by your visit to this place. I request you to come with a developmental rally in this area because the crowd you see here has hunger for you our President” added the chief.
