The Minister of Homeland Security Dr. Kenneth Zikhale Ng’oma has commended chiefs from Chitipa district for their interest in the new refugee camp which the government is intending to establish in Chitipa district. Ng’oma made the remarks on Tuesday during the official opening of the meeting involving chiefs from Chitipa district, officials from the Ministry of Homeland Security as well as officials from the department of refugees. According to Ng’oma, it is important to involve chiefs and people from the grassroots in such projects. The Minister further commended chiefs from Chitipa district for giving the land to the government for the establishment of the new camp,saying that the gesture will go along way in improving the plight of refugees at domestic and global level. He further said that the refugee camp will be key in the provision of other social services considering that such developments come with other aspects that are important to the community. “I wish to thank our chiefs for answering our call, special thanks should go to Senior Chief Mwenewenya and Group Village Headman kayilizi for allocating land for this course. As a government we are not taking this for granted as it will go a long way in fulfilling our agenda on sustainable peace and security as enshrined in Malawi 2063 vision,” Ng’oma explained. On his part, Chief Mwenewenya said that his people are passionate about the project. “People in my area are ready for the project considering that at first there were mixed reactions,so we have sorted out issues,” The chiefs are expected to visit Dzaleka refugee camp to appreciate the situation at the camp. The new site for refugee camp was identified in Kayilizi area in Chitipa district.
