They were not supposed to block the road

One of the Malawi’s seasoned political analysts Ceaser Kondowe has warned Democratic Progressive party (DPP) against taking the law in their own hands.

In an exclusive interview from Blantyre, following blocking of entrance in Parliament two days ago, Kondowe blamed the whole saga on DPP.

He said the issue was so simple, when the Speaker ruled on 105 all concerned Members of Parliament were supposed to match out peacefully.

He said the standing order 105 is there to protect the interest of parliament from unruly people.

As a way forward Kondowe has advised DPP to follow all set down rules and procedures and make the Parliament productive for our Mother Malawi.

“You know that the National Assembly alone possesses legislative supremacy and thereby ultimate power over all other political bodies in Malawi therefore its decisions must always be respected including decisions by the Speaker of Parliament, ” he said.

But addressing the media DPP elected Leader of Opposition Mary Navitcha argues that the Speaker errored in recognizing Kondwani Nankhumwa as Leader of Opposition since he was already fired from the party.

Navitcha said only a person from DPP can represent DPP interests in Parliament.

But the speaker said she could not recognize Navitcha because currently there is a court order with Nankhumwa and the 22 Parliamentarians obtained in June 2022 restraining the speaker not to recognize George Chaponda as Leader of Opposition.

The Speaker said she sought advice from the office of the Attorney general who said with the injunction still hanging Kondwani Nankhumwa remains Leader of Opposition.
