The second energy and agri-energy delivery labs organized by the Presidential Delivery Unit-PDU, is underway at the BICC in Lilongwe. According to Principle Secretary in the Ministry of Energy, Alfonso Chikuni, Malawi is set to achieve 50 percent electricity accessibility by 2030; saying currently, the country is at 27 percent. PS Alfonso Chikuni is convinced that the goal is feasible as they are currently required to make at least 250,000 connections every year till 2030. Chikuni added that the hope lies in the prudent utilisation of resources and prioritization in resource allocation. He however, decried tedious procurement processes that oftentimes slowdown the pace at which the Ministry operates. Meanwhile, Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet Country Lead, Collen Zalengera, whose organization is supporting the labs, said they are hopeful that the labs would unlock improvements in the energy sector and help in transforming lives of Malawians. PDU head Janet Banda, who is also deputy Secretary to the President and Cabinet, said the labs are crucial as they will help to reflect challenges and find lasting solutions in the implementation of flagship projects across the country.
