Malawi leader President Dr Lazarus Chakwera reiterated to President Zelensky on his position that lasting peace in Ukraine will come through contact and dialogue with Russia. Confirming the sentiments Presidential Press Secretary Anthony Kasunda said that the President has reaffirmed that Malawi has a vested interest in supporting those peace-making efforts both on principle as a peace-loving nation as well as in the pragmatic quest of Malawi’s economic interests, such as the price of fuel and fertilizers that have been affected worldwide by the war. “In this regard, President Chakwera also expressed his desire for Malawi and Ukraine to deepen diplomatic ties with each other focused on economic cooperation in the areas of food production, education, and digitization,” Kasunda said. Confirmimg on his engagement with the Malawi leader, President Zelensky through his tweeter post said he engaged with President Chakwera to thank him on his consistent support in Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and his readiness to join efforts to restore peace at the Peace Summit in Switzerland. “We also discussed our bilateral relations and directed our teams to develop proposals for expanding cooperation. Ukraine and Malawi has promising areas of cooperation particularly in IT, education and food security,” Zelensky tweets. Zelensky further said Ukraine stands ready to be food security guarantor of Malawi and other African countries.
